The Rich Italian
Similar to that finger licking calzone you had on your last holiday in Italy, we believe it’s best simple, with natural ingredients made by a hearty Italian family. Our key leathers are premium Tuscan vegetable tanned, full-grain and hand finished. They mature and get better with age, just like the Chianti you enjoyed with that pizza - made in Italy.
There is simply no comparison to the chemically tanned and uniform appearance of chrome-tanned leather.
The Two Paths of Leather Tanning
- Chrome tanning (90% of global leather): Fast (24 hours), uses chromium salts and heavy metals, produces uniform color, environmentally problematic
- Vegetable tanning (our leather): Slow (30-60 days), uses natural tannins from tree bark (chestnut, oak, mimosa), each hide unique, biodegradable
Why It Matters for the Environment
- Chrome tanning wastewater contains toxic chromium VI (carcinogenic)
- Vegetable tanning uses renewable plant materials
- Our leather is biodegradable at end of life
- Our Italian tannery follows strict environmental protocols
The Beauty of Aging
- Vegetable-tanned leather develops a rich patina over years
- Natural oils from your hands create unique character
- Scratches and marks tell your story (not defects)
- Compare: chrome leather cracks and can peel; veg-tan improves with age

Why It Costs More (And Why It's Worth It)
- Time: 30-60 days for veg-tan vs 24 hours for Chrome
- Skill: Artisan expertise required
- Materials: Natural tannins vs industrial chemicals
- Longevity: Decades vs years
How to Recognise Quality Vegetable-Tanned Leather
- Warm, natural colour variations (not flat or uniform)
- Develops patina with use
- Feels substantial but supple
